There’s a massive collision set for “Monday Night Raw” in Mexico City.
Roman Reigns will put the World Heavyweight Championship on the line against Penta. Reigns has been the champion since defeating CM Punk at WrestleMania 42 and has put down everyone who has stepped up to the plate to try and take a swing at him.
Penta poses an element as a challenger that Reigns really hasn’t faced before.
Traditionally, Reigns likes to slow down the pace and make the opponent work the way he does. With Penta, you can expect high-flying action, a Penta driver and even a Mexican destroyer to come out of his arsenal. Penta delivering any of those moves to Reigns would set the crowd on fire.
WWE broadcaster Corey Graves told OutKick Dropkick the entire country of Mexico is behind Penta and is treating the match as such.
“You know, ordinarily, I wouldn’t even have to think about this. I would just instinctively say Roman Reigns,” Graves said of who he’d pick to win the Reigns-Penta match. “I think that if there is ever going to be a shock-the-world upset, the pieces are all in place for Monday night. You have Penta, who for all intents and purposes, is the new face of Lucha Libre, or what people understand or relate to as Lucha Libre as a WWE superstar, in Mexico City. Penta and his brother Fenix’s real-life story is incredible. These guys literally slept in train stations and bus stations and lived on the streets until they could get their foot in the door in the world of Lucha. And they haven’t looked back. Both of them are now megastars in WWE. Fenix is the Cruiserweight Champion in AAA.
“Back to the atmosphere, in Arena CDMX, I experienced it last year at TripleMania, Penta is going to have the entire nation of Mexico behind him. We’ve seen glimpses of it at the past few AAA events — they’re speaking of this like it’s a national battle. Like, Mexico is challenging for the World Heavyweight Championship. And I don’t think for as much success as Roman has had through his career, he’s ever faced adversity quite like this where it’s not just the guy standing across the ring from you. It’s 20,000 people around the arena. It’s a couple million sitting at home in the streets, wherever. The stars are in line that if something crazy was ever going to happen this Monday night, it’s going to happen.”
Could a massive upset shake up the pro wrestling world? We’ve seen it before in WWE with Mankind capturing the title during the Attitude Era and Kofi Kingston at WrestleMania 35.
Penta defeating Reigns would end the summer of Roman and likely send The Bloodline spiraling.
