Picking up where the TLR-7 Sub Ultra Compact left off, Streamlight updates the platform with its new TLR-7 X. The first offering in the line took the original TLR-7 and reduced its size and weight while maintaining a high-lumen output. Although it did all of this with a single battery, it only accepted a 3-volt CR123 lithium battery. However, the new TLR-7 X can now also run on Streamlight’s SL-B9 Li-Ion rechargeable battery pack.

Like the original, the TLR-7 X is constructed of machined aircraft-grade aluminum with an IPX7 waterproof rating. As a result, it is durable and reliable in any environment, even submerged down to 1 meter for 30 minutes. Not to mention, it can continue to operate within a temperature range of -40°F to +120°F.

The powerful LED boasts a 500-lumen output and 5,000-candela beam intensity at a distance of 141 meters. Likewise, its custom TIR optic delivers a concentrated beam with extensive range and optimized peripheral coverage. The light operates via an ambidextrous rear switch with three modes of operation—constant on, momentary operation, and strobe.

Where the TLR-7 X shines is in its multi-fuel operation. Running on a 3-volt CR123 lithium battery, the light provides 1.5 hours of runtime. However, this new model also accepts Streamlight’s SL-B9 Li-Ion rechargeable battery pack for one hour of runtime. So, you can run the rechargeable to save money but switch to the CR123 in the event of power loss.

The TLR-7 X Sub ships with a single CR123 disposable battery, while the TLR-7 X Sub USB ships with a rechargeable SL-B9 battery and USB-C charge chord. Both lights run on either battery.

“We have re-invented our best-selling TLR-7 sub tactical light by giving users the choice of using either a cost-saving USB-C rechargeable battery pack or a disposable battery, depending on availability or user preference,” said Streamlight President and Chief Executive Officer Ray Sharrah.

“Like its forerunner, the new TLR-7 X sub is extremely bright, compact and low-profile, and can be mounted on many railed subcompact weapons for maximizing visibility and targeting capability in tactical situations. It also has the same rear switches on the left and right of the trigger guard to allow for ambidextrous operation.”

On March 16, 2023, Personal Defense World reported:

The Streamlight TLR pistol light platform remains popular for its dependability and durability. Following the popularity of the TLR-7, Streamlight reduced its size and weight with the Sub Ultra Compact Tactical Gun Light. The updated model provided high lumen output and lightweight operation on a single battery. And now it is also available for the Springfield Hellcat.

Housed in 6000 Series machined aircraft-grade aluminum, the TLR-7 Sub is durable and reliable. The durable construction also features an IPX7 rating, providing waterproof properties, down to 1 meter, for 30 minutes as a result. Likewise, the TLR-7 Sub can operate within a wide temperature range of -40°F to +120°F—perfect for any environment.

Featuring the latest LED technology, the TLR-7 Sub provides a high 500-lumen output and 5,000-candela beam intensity. As a result, it has a beam distance of 141 meters. Likewise, the light provides 1.5 hours of runtime on a single 3-volt CR123 lithium battery. Correspondingly, due to the single battery operation, the TLR-7 Sub weighs a lightweight 2.39 ounces with battery.

The ambidextrous rear switch offers three operations—constant on, momentary operation, and strobe. Accessible on both the right and left sides of the trigger guard, the switch features an impact and chemical-resistant housing.

As the name implies, the TLR-7 Sub fits on sub-compact pistols. As a result, there are four versions of the light, depending on your model of pistol. There is one model for GLOCK, one for the SIG P365, one for the Springfield Hellcat, and one for select subcompact pistols featuring 1913 short rails. If you are unsure of the fitment with your pistol, it is recommended that you contact Streamlight for help.
