Although we don’t mention it as often as its two sister labels, there’s a third sibling in the We Knife Co./Civivi family, and that’s Sencut. They’ve got a new knife out this week called the Borzam, and it embodies the label’s bang-for-the-buck ethos and style.
Compared with We or Civivi, Sencut shies away from collaboration pieces, building its catalog with in-house designs only. It makes sense then that the Borzam seems to be modeled (in terms of philosophy, not specs) on the hardworking in-house designs that form the backbone of Civivi’s output – things like the best-selling Elementum. The Borzum’s blade, opened with either flipper or thumb stud, is a drop point, thoughtfully drawn, that runs out and up to a lowish tip in such a way as to give the entire cutting edge a light curvature; it should be a good all-around task-finisher, indoors and out.
In comparison to the Elementum in particular, the Borzam is a bit larger, with a blade length of 3.46 inches. Now those are still EDC dimensions to us, but the added length will simply appeal to some users more, and it may allow the Borzam to do certain things with more facility than its smaller compeers – for instance, if you’re the kind of person who likes to use your EDC to slice up food, the extra real estate will certainly be appreciated.
The blade steel is the Sencut standard choice, 9Cr18MoV, an entry-level stainless that may not turn heads, but will certainly get the job done. The Borzam’s simple, single finger groove handles is also assembled from proven materials: stainless steel liners (with a liner lock) underneath, and Micarta or G-10 scales on top. The deep carry pocket clip can swap to either side, and the Borzam is a sturdy but reasonable pocket companion with it total weight of 4.07 oz.
