American forces hit ‘dozens’ of Iranian targets following attempted attack on US troops

President Donald Trump on Thursday announced what he called a “historic agreement” to fully disarm Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza, describing the deal as a major breakthrough toward ending the war and implementing his administration’s 20-point peace plan.

“Today, the Board of Peace reached a HISTORIC agreement for the COMPLETE DISARMAMENT of Hamas and all other armed groups in Gaza. This is a monumental step toward lasting PEACE and SECURITY,” Trump said in a post shared on X.

“This agreement is a critical step towards Gaza finally being governed by a new Palestinian government that will work closely with the Board of Peace to help the Palestinian people. At the same time, Israel will have the security it deserves, with Gaza no longer used as a base for terror attacks,” he said.

Trump described the agreement as “a major milestone in the implementation of the Trump 20-Point Plan.”

“The agreement will be carried out in carefully structured phases. As disarmament is completed, Israeli forces will withdraw, and the International Stabilization Force will work with a new Palestinian police force to take responsibility for Gaza being safe for its residents and its neighbors,” he said.

Trump added that a year ago there was a “violent raging war, humanitarian crisis and hostages kept in brutal captivity.”

“We have made historic progress and there is still much work to do,” he said.Trump also thanked the mediators — Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye — for their “important efforts,” as well as “my outstanding team, whose tireless work made this historic breakthrough possible.”

“The threat that emerged from Gaza on October 7 will NOT be allowed to rebuild!” he added before confirming that, under the agreement, Gaza will “finally be in the hands of a new Palestinian government that serves its PEOPLE.”

“CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL ON THIS AMAZING DEVELOPMENT, THAT EVERYBODY SAID COULD NEVER BE ACHIEVED!” he added.

The signed agreement mark a major step toward Trump’s 20-point Gaza peace plan.

According to The Times of Israel, mediators from Qatar, Egypt and Turkey had intensified pressure on Hamas to accept the proposal, arguing that doing so would “put the ball in Israel’s court” and prevent the group from being blamed for blocking a peace agreement, a diplomat said.

One source who was part of the negotiations also told Axios that the Trump administration and the Board of Peace focused on cutting off Hamas’ sources of funding during the negotiations.

“We think we’ve managed to bring Hamas to a place where they can’t say no,” the source said.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had also urged Hamas to delay a Gaza disarmament agreement during a meeting in Iran when Hamas officials attended the funeral of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Axios reported.

The new proposal calls for Hamas to surrender its weapons as a prerequisite for transferring authority to a new Palestinian technocratic government and launching Gaza’s reconstruction.
