SAN ANTONIO, TX (2-minute read) – Late Wednesday evening, a confrontation at a Northwest Side apartment complex led to two individuals being hospitalized following a shooting incident. The event occurred around 9:30 p.m. at an apartment on Vance Jackson Road, near Fredericksburg Road.

According to police reports, the incident began when an undocumented couple engaged in a heated argument within their apartment. William Oliver, 49, a neighbor, intervened, asking the couple to lower their voices. In response, a 21-year-old man reportedly pointed a firearm at Oliver’s head, issuing threats in Spanish. Oliver retreated to his own apartment following the confrontation.

Oliver later believed the young man was attempting to forcibly enter his residence, prompting him to arm himself with a shotgun loaded with birdshot. In the ensuing confusion, he fired at the door, striking the 21-year-old in the hand and foot. An unintended female bystander was also injured in the leg during the shooting.

It is crucial to highlight the risks associated with shooting through doors or other barriers without a clear line of sight. Such actions can lead to unintended harm or legal consequences, such as the female bystander in this incident, as it’s vital to positively identify a target before discharging a firearm.

Both injured parties were transported to a local hospital and are reported to be in stable condition. As of now, William Oliver has not been charged in connection with the incident.

Firearm Safety Tip: Always ensure that your firearm is used responsibly and in a manner consistent with local laws, especially in tense situations where judgment can be clouded by emotions.
