Senator Rand Paul, R-Ky., joined Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Senator Tim Kaine, D-Va., and Adam Schiff, D-Calif., in a bid to block President Donald Trump from unilaterally launching any attacks against Venezuela. “I filed a bipartisan War Powers Resolution to stop Trump from starting another forever war,” Sen Tim Kaine said in a post on X.

The United States has been bombing its way toward a war with Venezuela since it first struck, alleging that a narcotics trafficking boat was coming from Venezuela. No evidence to support the U.S.’s claims has ever been presented, and the boats being bombed appear to be civilian in nature, making what the U.S. is doing war crimes.

“The Constitution gives Congress — and only Congress — the power to declare war. Trump’s illegal boat strikes and threats of land invasion in Venezuela are a clear overreach of power. I filed a bipartisan War Powers Resolution to stop Trump from starting another forever war,” Kaine said in the post on X.

Trump is not the only U.S. ruler to commit war crimes. Infamous drone bomber, Barack Obama, oversaw a significant increase in the use of drone strikes during his two terms in office from 2009 to 2017. Independent analyses provide varying estimates, but the Bureau of Investigative Journalism (TBIJ) reported that there were a total of 563 drone and air strikes conducted in Pakistan, Somalia, and Yemen during Obama’s presidency, which is approximately ten times more than the 57 strikes carried out under President George W. Bush in those countries.

“Although President Trump campaigned on no more wars, he and his Administration are unilaterally moving us closer to one with Venezuela — and they are doing so without providing critical information to the American people about the campaign’s overall strategy, its legal rationale, and the potential fallout from a prolonged conflict, which includes increased migration to our border,” Kaine said in a statement.
