Earlier this week we covered the Full Metal Atlas, the latest Cold Steel folder equipped with the company’s beefy, proprietary Atlas Lock. But the FMA is not the only thing Cold Steel has got cooking, and they’ve got a batch of other new knives on display at Blade Show 2024.
Caledonian Edge
Premium knives seem to be the theme with this round of Cold Steel releases. Case in point, check out the Caledonian Edge. A new rendition of a long-discontinued folder, the Caledonian Edge falls into the small but persistent Scottish dirk/sgian-dubh inspired group of knives from Cold Steel. Its 4.25-inch blade is a narrow, dagger-like spear point, and it’s made from CPM-20CV. This one is not an Atlas Lock; instead, a liner lock is nestled beneath its handles, whose scales consist of carbon fiber capped by a titanium bolster.
Spectre Series
This new knife family consists of two models, each with the same materials and overall design style, but different blade shapes. As the name would imply, the Spectre knives are low-profile, svelte, gent’s folder-like knives that deliver a big blade – 3.8 inches – with a low weight of 3.1 oz. You’ve got your choice between the all-purpose drop point pictured above, or the more specialized hawkbill [see feature image]; both are made from CPM-20CV, lock up with a liner lock, and fold into handles made from the same titanium/carbon fiber combo as the Caledonian Edge.
Swift III
Cold Steel’s assisted-opening folder gets a 2024 remaster. Still running on a spring-powered assisted opening mechanism, the Swift III now also features the Atlas Lock. That’s not the only piece of knife tech in the handle either: there’s a secondary safety toggle in place too, if you want to make double sure there’s no chance of the beefy 4-inch, M4 steel blade opening when you don’t want it to.
MagnaCut Recon 1 and Titanium AD-10
These ones are pretty much exactly what they say on the tin: two proven favorites rendered in some new materials.
First up, and slated for full production, is the full-size, 4-inch blade version of the Recon 1, which has been iterated upon with different steels over the years and now is made from the Steel of the Hour, CPM-MagnaCut.
Meanwhile, the Andrew Demko AD-10 is rolling out in two limited edition, titanium-handled versions – one with a black PVD handle coating, the other satin finished. These special AD-10s are serial numbered and made from 3V blade steel. The black handled model is limited to 130 pieces, while the satin finish batch runs to around 1000. These are available to buy at Blade Show, so if you’re interested hustle over to Cold Steel’s booth now!
