Elcan has updated its popular SpecterDR series of riflescopes to better meet the evolving demands of modern warfare. The company, known for its pragmatic innovation and ability to adapt to shifting needs, have made significant enhancements to their existing 1x/4x and 1.5x/4x variants.

A notable change in both these variants is the switch from an anodizing finish to a Cerakote one. This shift aims to reduce the scope’s infrared (IR) detection, a critical factor in contemporary combat scenarios.

Another integral development in the 2024 upgrade involves integrating a Picatinny rail directly into the scopes’ housing. This versatile attachment platform allows mounting of additional accessories or a red dot optic, broadening the functional capabilities of the scope.

Both scope models now boast an ambidextrous throw lever as well as an improved, more robust battery cover. However, the familiar internals of the scopes remain unchanged, including their distinct ability to switch instantly between Close Quarters Battle (CQB) configuration in 1x power to medium-distance engagement capability in 4x power.

Acknowledging the aesthetic factor, the upgraded 2024 scopes are available in either Black or Flat Dark Earth finish. Furthermore, the reticle options have been expanded to cater both the 5.56 and 7.62 round preference of the shooter.

Addressing the prized update, Elcan asserted that these optics are “designed to withstand the rigors of modern professional use” and offer the best option for engaging at close-to-medium ranges.

These new scopes continue the tradition of prism-based optical designs. Also, persistent is the manufacturer’s choice of superb German glass for optimal clarity.

These upgrades notwithstanding, it is pertinent to note that the ELCAN SpecterDR scope is significantly heavier than its newer counterpart. The substantialness, however, is offset by its length, making it slightly shorter than other scopes on the market, reaffirming Elcan’s commitment to user-friendly combat solutions.
