Photo Of The Day and the star for today is FN Herstal’s new ultralight machine gun called EVOLYS. This sample is chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO, with a weight of around 6 kilograms. Compared to the FN Minimi and similar competitors, it is up to 30% lighter. In terms of design, it looks like a beefed-up version of the FN SCAR, don’t you think? Regardless, it will be interesting to see which Army or force picks it up first. Countries like Belgium, France, the United Kingdom and the United States Army all have it for evaluation purposes already.
The Evolys here is equipped with a 1x to 4x sight from Elcan, with some sore of thermal or night vision front attachment.
Do you prefer “your” machine gun in 5.56 NATO or 7.62 NATO? Or some other caliber? If you could pick any machine gun, which one would it be?
