Welcome everyone to the 229th edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only have Fudd appeal? Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.
In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, by a narrow margin decided the sunflower-themed Glock 19C was fudd crap.
At this time the original auction is still up on GunBroker with the sunflower-themed Austrian classic still up for grabs. We can only hope this flower-clad gat can find its way to a new home shortly.
In this week’s edition of HGFC, we look at a custom TiN-coated Colt Python Chambered in .357 Magnum. As is tradition, this classic wheel gat is currently up for sale on GunBroker for $4499 Buy It Now.

Let’s see what the Staff had to say about this week’s offering:

“Why do people insist on imitating dictators and cartels?” – Doug E.
“This TiNs my Python. Hot gat.” – James Reeves

I’ll be the first to admit I’m not a wheel gun guy. I like to think of myself as an equal-opportunity firearms enjoyer, but I’ve spent far more time browsing magazine-fed firearms over the years. That said, there’s always been a soft spot in my heart for the Colt Python. It’s sorta like a 1969 Mustang Fastback. Doesn’t matter if you’re a Mustang guy or not, not liking one is simply downright un-American.
I missed an opportunity to pick up one of these beauties years ago. And no, it was the factory finish and didn’t look like it could have been a collector’s piece held by a cartel member. I know we’ve used that joke a lot on this series, but honestly, who buys a Colt Python and thinks “Man, I really need to make this cooler somehow”? Even with well-done engraving work, I’d prefer the factory finish options. I hope the TiN-coated fad starts to fade because this gold-on-a-budget look is starting to get annoying (yes I get it’s functional in certain applications).
What do you think? Is this Colt Python worth it as a classic alone for $4.5k or are you better off saving that money for a rainy day? As always I leave it up to you, the readers, to decide.
What do you think? Is this coated and engraved Python a Hot Gat or despicably ruined and now Fudd Crap? Be sure to let us know in the comments below, and cast your vote to let us know if this Colt Python 6in Gold TiN Coated Custom Engraved .357 is a Hot Gat or Fudd Crap:
